A Portland Snow Day, Again.

A Portland Snow Day, Again.

We don't get weather like this. And if we did, it wouldn't quite be like this. We have had three big winter storms come through Portland OR all in a row. It started snowing 7 days ago and there has been snow on the ground or coming out of the sky ever since. Close to 6 inches accumulation here in SW Portland. Completely unheard of.

And what makes it so difficult is that Portland is a town that is not set up for winter weather. Towns in Minnesota and Kansas, even those in Eastern Oregon, are used to snow. They have snow plows and gravel trucks and people buy snow tires in the fall and take them off in the spring. People know how to drive in icy conditions and the busses keep running on a regular schedule. Portland is not like this.
Usually winter weather happens in one day spurts. The whole town shuts down, the grocery stores sell out of toilet paper and bottled water (in case the electricity goes out, or something :) and everyone sits home sipping hot chocolate and watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special on DVD after a morning of sledding, if there was enough snow. Take it from me, you snuggle by the fire for 7 days straight without wanting to strangle your cuddle buddy.

Our house is so cold that we are more or less sequestered to the heatable bedrooms. There is only 1 TV/computer with internet/music making device. There is only one comfortable chair. Going to the kitchen requires bundling up like going outside. We have two dogs who can't be left alone together because they would either shred the house, freeze to death or howl until the neighbor complained. We are, in a word, snowbound.

And the weather channel calls for more snow until Tuesday. Yip-freakin-ee.

P.S. We have had some fun. Rufus dragged Dave up and down the road without even the benefit of skiis. Tumalo and I went for a lovely big walk around the neighborhood the other day when it was sunny. I've allowed myself lots and lots of Annie's Mac and Cheese, for fortification, doncha know :) We've watched a bunch of cool videos and I'm almost done crocheting my nephew's Christmas blanket. It's been easy to not spend any money seeing as I can't even get to a store, and I saved almost a whole week's worth of gas! The snow is beautiful, and it's surely and adventure. I'm just ready for the adventure to be over :)

Day 33 - Catching Up With Old Friends

Day 33 - Catching Up With Old Friends

EVE Online has been making up a big part of my life again as Will, Jake, and Kevin are all playing now. Add to this that I also now have a second account, and we're going to making ridiculous amounts of money shortly. This also means that I'm spending a lot of time on the computer with the world's most interactive screensaver.

In the mean time, I'm catching up on old DVDs that I purchased that I haven't gotten around to watching. And speaking of which, books I could be reading too...

Anywho, my Sweetheart and I found great success today as we finally got a hold of our new Spuds! Spudess and Spudison join our Spud Farm (i.e. my room) with Spud, Spudette, and Spudly. More details on the day of the unveiling as well as the story of how we rescued them :)

Oh, and also a special surprise when my Sweetheart sees what else I got her from Think Geek besides the Hello Kitty Monopoly :)
